Wind resistance

Selection of aroller shutter profile is first of all based on the opening dimensions and wind region where the building is located and in which the roller shutters are to be installed in.

Wind strength differs from region to region: from a light breeze to a powerful storm. Torn branches and other objects taken up by strong wind can break glass in windows or doors. To protect windows and doors against bad weather it is better to install roller shutters. It is very important to select the right roller shutter profiles. Not only the roller shutter shall protect the windows rather withstand the wind exposure itself.

Alutech roller shutters guarantee this, as all Alutech roller shutter systems have been tested for the resistance to wind loads according to EN13659 on the company’s own test stand KS PC (made in Germany).

Alutech is the only company in the CIS countries that has at its equipment to test wind resistance, air and water permeability of planar structures.

Wind load resistance of Alutech roller shutter systems equals to:

  • 600 Pa according to EN12424 corresponding to 34.9 m/s wind speed;
  • 850 Pa according to EN12424 corresponding to 37,7 m/s wind speed.

To ensure public protection against injuries by building elements a number of regulatory documents have been developed with obligatory requirements to safety facilities.

One of such requirements is the safety facility when exposed to wind loads. To ensure safety of premises, the regulatory documents define test types and load values at the stage of design and production.

To determine requirements to wind resistance the following standards are used:

  • EU countries – EN 13659

EN13659 specify criteria of safety evaluation: a building is exposed to pressure specified in the document; in these conditions the product (roller shutter, doors, etc.) shall remain structurally integral. Besides, after removal of exposure the product shall be without deformations and remain operational.
